Face to Face
Face to Face (Firefighters Advocating Character and Ethics) is a program where unmatched Little Brothers in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program are "matched" with fire stations in their area for a six-week period. It is expected the Face-to-Face program will increase the Little Brother's awareness of the importance of developing and practicing good character by empowering them with the knowledge necessary to make principle-based decisions. During this time, Littles, with the help of the firefighters, explore the six character traits in a self-paced workbook.
All participants are interviewed by Big Brothers Big Sisters staff to determine their interest level and to ensure they will comply with program guidelines. Little Brothers are transported to the fire station by either their parent/guardian, screened volunteers, or agency staff. The person transporting the Little Brother remains at the station during the visit in the event the firefighters receive a call. A graduation ceremony completes this unique opportunity for unmatched Little Brothers.
In the fall semester 2001, one boy was matched with 4 firemen.
