| Law Enforcement in Finney County has teamed up with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Finney County to help the kids in our program. The Finney County Sheriff's Department and Garden city police Departments both attended a training session on January 19 to learn about a new program called Cops for Kids. This program was started in Wichita to both raise money through Bowl for Kids' Sake and engage the kids on the waiting list in positive activities. In Sedgwick County, the have a BRIDGES program where officers spend time with these kids and a LAW camp that is put on for about 150 youth. We all hope this new alliance will bring some positive results to Garden City and Finney County, through our own programs here.

Little of the Month
There are many kids on our waiting list in need of a Big Brother or Big Sister. This month, Natya has been selected as our Little of the Month. She has been involved with BB/BS since Aug. 1994. Currently, she is a GCHS freshman and her dream is to go to college to become a psychologist. She describes herself as nice, outgoing, fun, respectful, and sometimes quiet. She is very close to her family. If you would like to be matched to Natya or another child on our waiting list, there are many options available. volunteers can be a Big Brother, Big Sister, Couple match, or family match. The activity for February will be a Valentine's Day party on Saturday, February 13, from 2:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. Location: to be announced. We will call everyone with the details the week before. If you need a ride let us know!

Match of the Month
The match of the month are LB Aniceto and BB Eric. They have been matched for 3 months. Aniceto was on our waiting list for a year before Eric came along. Thank you Eric for taking time to include Ceto in your life! Since they have been matched they attended the all star wrestling event, went to a movie, and they participate in our group monthly activities. |
To All School Based Mentors:My name is Suzanne Austin and I am the New School Based Mentoring Coordinator.Besides changing the name to the Big Buddies Program, the program has changed for the better? Mentors now spend time one on one with their paired buddies as well as time in each elementary classroom. Since this is a school based program, any contact between the Bigs and Littles outside of school is not permitted. We hope this change will have a great positive effect on the children and the adult mentors! This program is currently in five Elementary schools in GArden City and holcomb Elementary. if you know anyone who would be interested in being a Big Buddy, please call me at 275-2424.
