We are a city that nurtures growth and provides an increasing attractiveness to the outside world. Living and working in Garden City offers great opportunity and quality of life.

Now ranked as the seventh most popular tourist attraction in Kansas, the Lee Richardson Zoo is home to more than 95 different domestic and foreign animal species that total over 265 individual animals. Ongoing expansion and renovation make exhibits exciting and comfortable for animals and people alike. The Zoo and Finnup Park are an important part of the superior quality of life that Garden City residents and visitors enjoy.

Within Finnup Park is a true phenomenon! The Garden City Municipal Swimming Pool is more than one half of a city block in size, contains 2.8 million gallons of water and has the distinction of being the world's largest, free, concrete, municipal swimming pool.

Garden City is host to numerous craft shows, gun shows, antique shows and auctions. Each August for over 20 years, an event called Art In The Park is held. This craft show has become one of the favorite hometown festivities for thousands of people. It's an event no one wants to miss.

Garden City has seven beautiful parks, located throughout the city, that are dedicated to family fun and youthful recreation. Some of these parks have walking tracks, and those of all ages who are "healthy at heart" give these path ways heavy use on a regular basis.

Garden City offers two public golf courses, one of which is Buffalo Dunes, ranked by Golf Digest to be in the top 100 courses in the U.S. Southwind Country Club, an 18 hole, private course, ranks in the top five in Kansas. The annual Southwest Kansas Pro-Am is held in August at these two exceptional golf courses.

Two happenings in Garden City that attract thousands of people are the 3i Show and Beef Empire Days. The 3i Show, an irrigation, implement, and industry trade show, brings together hundreds of agriculture businessmen for this event. Beef Empire Days, a twelve day event hosted for over 25 years by the cattle industry, functions as an educational celebration about beef and promotes interaction between cattlemen and the public.

"Garden City is a wonderful place to live, because the people are nice and friendly. Garden City is certainly the right size and has good schools for your kids' education."
