In 1979 Carl Myers purchased a small freon Vogt ice machine and installed it in a warehouse at his existing milk processing business. With a small bin, bagger and storage room, Myers' Ice Company began. A 1970 International truck and refrigerated box was purchased to make the deliveries to a growing number of customers in Garden City and to the small towns to the west.

In 1980, Myers' Ice Company moved to its existing location which had been an ice plant refrigerated by ammonia since 1906. With a 15 ton Turbo remote (ammonia) installed and several years of rebuilding and remodeling, the ice plant began to look like a modern ice facility. In 1987, Myers' Ice purchased Miller Ice Company of Dodge City, Kansas. This added considerably to the geographic and customer base. Another 20 ton Turbo was installed to keep up with the growing demand. In 1991, yet another 20 ton Turbo was installed.

The largest expansion project was in 1994. A 100 pallet storage room was added to the plant along with a new rake bin, stainless steel augers and bagging equipment, two 25 ton turbos, a 250 hp screw compressor and a larger ammonia receiver and condenser bringing the production capabilities to 100 tons of ice per day.

With all of this production, there was a need for more customers. In March, 1997, Myers' Ice Company purchased Ice World of Hays, Kansas. This allowed the Myers' family to open a distribution center in Hays which has since acquired two other small ice companies.

A growing concern of declining quality of water supply led to the installation of an Industrial Reverse Osmosis System that will insure a safe and pure product through the next millennium.

The municipal water company that supplies water to Myers' Ice uses 5 different wells of various water qualities. Some of these wells supply water with a large percentage of minerals.

The photo shows Craig Myers standing in front of the new Reverse Osmosis water system. This system has an output of up to 31 gallons per minute of high purity water, which is used to make high quality or "clear" ice, containing no minerals to cloud the ice.

With a fleet of trucks and a dedicated staff, Myers' Ice Company serves the High Plains region spanning across the western half of Kansas, eastern Colorado and the panhandles of Oklahoma and Texas. Along with the ability to meet the demands of a growing region, Myers' Ice Company strives to maintain their commitment to delivering a quality product with outstanding service.
